Choice #1: (10 pts assignment). Choose a 2nd article to read in class today. Your options are “Disaster on the Mountain” on p 4 or “The Choice” on p 25. Read it independently to yourself and write a minimum 1-paragraph SUMMARY about the contents of the article, including a minimum of 1 direct quote. Refer to paper for instructions on how to quote correctly with punctuation and lead-in. Due by the end of class, or finish for HW
Option #2: (Extra Credit opportunity that will require more time, thought & effort but will exempt you from Option #1). Find an article from a front page newspaper (Plain Dealer or Akron Beacon Journal), cut it out and read it carefully to get an idea as to how objective writing differs from subjective writing. Also, create an original newspaper that follows the “Organizing Your Newspaper Article” (handout) related to “Will the World End in 2012” article. Final draft must include a headline, byline, lead sentence, at least 3 body paragraphs and a conclusion.
